Governor Fashola renames hall to honour slain Yobe students

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola yesterday Thursday February 27th renamed a hall initially named after him, to “Peace Hall’’, in memory of slain Yobe school children.

Vanguard reports that the hall was constructed by the Lagos Zonal Council of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), located at Fadeyi in Lagos.

Fashola said at the inauguration of the hall earlier named after him by NUPENG that he changed the name to honour the slain secondary school students.
"I appreciate NUPENG’s gesture but I will rename this edifice `Peace Hall`, in memory of the lives of the children that were brutally slain in Yobe by insurgents. The Children will soon be forgotten but as a reminder to us and the need to stand up for what is right, I ask that the hall be re-named as NUPENG’s Peace Hall, as we all search for peace across Nigeria. While we pray for the repose of the souls of these young ones, it is also a moment we must stand up as a nation. Whatever language you speak, whatever faith you practise, whatever ethnic/tribe you claim, this is the time it will not show. No matter how diverse we are, we are still one people, this is a time when colours and flag do not matter and political ideologies mean nothing. This is the time we must show and respect the values of the lives of fellow Nigerians’’ The governor said.

''So Called Man Of God, (COZA Pastor Biodun) Rejected Me Because Of A Scandal'' - Singer Reveals

Gospel singer Kefee, in a chat with Encomium Magazine while trying to defend her Kokoroko song with secular singer Tamara, told this interesting story of her experience with now happily married Ese Walter's COZA pastor, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.  Please read:

You started out as a traditional gospel singer, along the line your deviated. Would we say you re-branded?

If you have my album or albums, you would know that I am doing same kind of music, but different genres. For instance, the kind of songs in Branama 1 is the same with other songs, but with improved production and vocals.

Some people were not happy because you featured Timaya in Kokoroko and he’s a secular singer. How would you react to that?

Before I react to that question, let me tell you this short true story. In 2008, I was invited to perform at a church (name withheld) in Abuja for the second time. The publicity for the show was massive, they had distributed invitation card to guests, people were even calling to confirm if I was going to perform. In fact, I got copies of the flyers weeks before the show.

I was getting ready to go to the airport when I got a call from the pastor’s P.A, asking if I had seen a certain newspaper’s story about me. I said yes, it was a scandal.

And he said they don’t want to have anything to do with me because of that scandal. Besides, he added that they have top government officials who worship in their church, and all sort.

I said ok, but the so-called senior pastor, who called me initially to plead with me to accept a certain amount because it was a new church couldn’t call me anymore, he had to send his P.A to tell me that. He didn’t care what happened to me, if it was true what said about me by an angry, bitter man.

I felt really low not because I didn’t do the show but because they cared less what happened to me, because that would have been the end of my career.

Now, I called Timaya. We met at a studio somewhere in Festac town, and Timaya asked me about the same scandal. And he told me what I expected a man of God would’ve told me. I remember, he said to me:
“Don’t worry, if your hands are clean, you will see God turn things around for you. God will help you, my sister.”
I say this in all sobriety, after which we recorded Kokoroko. When Kokoroko came out and Timi (Dakolo) listened to it, he said “Kefee, you dey make me like God in a different way.”

Now, you tell me, who acted like a good human? Who would have ever thought that the so-called man of God, who now has his share of scandal and is still planning a robust reply would act that weird?

So, when I heard people talking about me featuring Timaya, it sounded funny. God can use anything, anybody.

Music is an art that transcends all. Timaya was good for that song and he delivered, that’s what matters to me.
I don’t judge people. If he was a doctor, you won’t say he shouldn’t treat you because he isn’t a Christian. It won’t matter then. All you would want is have him do his job and that was what he did. He did a good job on that song you can’t deny that. And to me, that’s what counts.

Many people have criticized you because of your way of dressing, saying that it is not Christ-like. How would you react to that?

Really? I dress the way I like, I like my African print and again, everyone can’t like every style or design. So, that’s acceptable.

But Pastor Anthony is back and openly begged for forgiveness:
"I’m here to tell everyone that I made a mistake, and I have sought God’s forgiveness. The incident saved me because I would have committed more sins."

Fans blast Yobo’s Sexy Mother-In-Law: ”Allow Your Daughter Enjoy Her Marriage”

In Africa, marriage is a sacred institution that is not toiled with in any way. For Africans, especially Nigerians, the union between a man and a woman must be protected from external interference. That is why parents advise their children to endure their marriages, even when there are clear evidences of trouble or incompatibility between the husband and wife.
In the olden days, parents were actively involved in the choice of their children’s spouses, though such cultures have now been thrown into the gutters due to civilization.
However, when a lady leaves her parents, her mother ought to let go and allow her enjoy her new home, while such mother stays glued to her own husband. But once in a while, she pays visits to her daughter, especially when she gives birth to a new baby or her help is urgently needed.
Some years ago, Super Eagles defender, Joseph Yobo, took former beauty queen, Adaeze Igwe as wife. The two moved to Turkey after Yobo joined a Turkish football club, Fenebache.
But shortly after that, Yobo’s mother-in-law, Abigail Igwe, was accused of causing trouble in the marriage of her daughter due to her continued stay in her the lady’s matrimonial home.
Recently, pictures hit the internet showing the mother and daughter looking hot and now, some of Yobo’s fans have hit out at his mother-in-law. “Why is this woman always with her daughter? Her intrusion is getting out of hands,” one of the fans said.

“She should just give her daughter breathing space,” another fan submitted. “Can’t she stay with her own husband?” an aggrieved fan queried, while another said, “but she got married to John Fashanu about three years ago, so why is she is not always with him,” asked another fan.

President Reinterates "I’ve powers to suspend Sanusi"

GEJ vs SLS
ABUJA—President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, affirmed his powers to suspend Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as governor of the Central Bank, saying the action was totally unconnected with alleged corruption charges raised by Sanusi against the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
Speaking during an interactive media chat on television last night, President Jonathan equally pooh-poohed issues about his intentions for the 2015 presidential elections just as he declared that the country would not break under his watch.

The president said that the forthcoming national conference was an opportunity for Nigerians to address long standing issues affecting them in the polity just as he queried the propriety of the Borno State governor’s claim that the Federal Government was not doing enough in fighting the terrorist group, Boko Haram. The president dared the governor that should he pull out the troops from Borno State for one month, the governor would not be able to stay in Government House for one month.
The media chat anchored by AIT’s Imoni Amarere also had Grace Ekpo, Goodluck Nnaji of Base FM, Oraifite in Anambra State, and Bolaji Tunji of New Telegraph on the panel.
The media chat which lasted exactly 75 minutes was mainly taken up by last week’s suspension of Sanusi as governor of the CBN but the president also addressed issues concerning defections by governors and senators from the parties on which they were elected; the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in the country, his 2015 presidential bid and the controversies surrounding subsidy on kerosene, among others.

On his declaration for 2015
The President said: “In Finland, when you are elected as the president of that country, you no longer belong to any political party. But that is Finland; in Nigeria and with the tradition of the PDP, as soon as you become the president, you become the leader of the party. In the parliamentary system, the Prime Minister is the leader of the party. So, ideally, the president has some challenges. Even today, I am not contesting elections but I must make sure that I lead my party to victory.
“I remember in 2007, when former president Olusegun Obasanjo was leading the campaign for the late Yar’Adua and myself. There was a particular place we visited and Yar’Adua was not with us when I addressed the press and I was asked the question, ‘why should President Obasanjo be the key person campaigning for you’?.
I told them then that what you do not understand is that the President of Nigeria according to the PDP constitution, is the leader of the party and the president should lead his party to victory. As at that time, I was still the governor of Bayelsa State.
“While I am campaigning here, I will also go and lead the campaign in Bayelsa State because I was the leader of the party and as the governor, I had to make sure that the party wins. Even today that I am not contesting elections, any candidate contesting on the PDP platform, I must still lead the party to victory.
The president must lead his party to victory and the political environment is so hot and I do not want to use this platform to campaign and to talk about PDP; it will not be fair. I was there to tell the world that the PDP is still the dominant party in the country. I cannot run away.”

Defections of governors
“I will prefer we do not go to that area to market my party. I want to use this platform to comment on contemporary issues. I believe one thing very clearly- that we are elected by Nigerians and the days when Mr President, Mr governor or Mr Senator imposes his will on Nigerians is over. Nigerians have been made to understand that their votes count.
The issue is that if the governor is doing very well, the people will definitely follow him, but if the people do not believe in him, they will go with their votes.”
Are you contesting and when are you going to declare your interest?
“If I tell you I am not contesting, there will be issues and if I say I am contesting, there will be issues. I know the political environment is hot now but at the appropriate time, you will know.

Centenary celebration funding
“I cannot say the total cost of the centenary but it is mainly sponsored by the private sector. The Heads of states that are coming are my guests. I will accommodate them, feed them and pay for their transportation, that is the role of the president but every other thing is being sponsored by the private sector. Government is not going to spend so much money.”

Kick off of the national conference
“We will not want the disintegration of Nigeria to be a subject matter for that discussion but I am quite happy that when the committee went round, it was discovered that only one person submitted a memo on  the disintegration of the country.
“Our thinking is that the national conference will begin on March 3. You will know the chairman, the deputy chairman and the secretary but they will start work for at least a week before we invite others to join. On March 10, I will formally inaugurate the conference. The plan so far is that the conference will start on March 3.”

Nigeria will not disintegrate
“We are not holding the conference so that the country will break. People feel that the present constitution is not the peoples’ constitution, but that the constitution was imposed on them by the military dictators and that Nigerians must have their own constitution. People have different views, all what we are doing, other countries have done, but they call it different names. Just as other countries have done, it shows that we are entering another centenary.
“If there are issues we think we can correct, we must go and correct them but if there are no issues, then fine. But let us go from different backgrounds and redeem our country. If there are one or two grey areas that we think we can make corrections, then, let us make them. The purpose is not to prevent the disintegration of Nigeria. Nigeria will not disintegrate. The idea of the conference is not to create any environment that will affect this administration, but this conference is necessary. At the end of the day, I believe that there will be a lot of changes.

On his powers to suspend the CBN governor, he said:
“The issue of the Central Bank is quite unfortunate but I will respond based on the issues you raised. Forget whether it is Goodluck Jonathan; it is whether the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has powers to suspend the governor of CBN. I will tell you, yes, the President has absolute powers to suspend the CBN governor. CBN is not even well defined in the Nigerian constitution. If you look at the Nigerian constitution, section 153,  talks about executive bodies like Federal Character Commission, Civil Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission, about 14 of them, the code of conduct, these are clearly defined and it says that the President appoints, but must clear with the National Assembly. For the President to remove anybody, the president must go through Senate. CBN as the number one bank is not even well defined in the Nigerian constitution, but CBN law makes the provision that to appoint the governor, deputy governors, and  the non-executive directors, the President appoints and sends to Senate but the President has oversight functions over cbn. But if somebody tells you that the CBN is a different country, it is not true because for the cbn governor to change the colour of the Naira, the President must approve and for the CBN account to be even published, the President must approve.
Sanusi is still the governor of CBN and people must know that and that is why there can never be a substantive governor until the issue is sorted out. Sanusi could come back tomorrow to continue his work because the issues raised are issues that the board of CBN with the Financial Reporting Counicl, the authority that has the power to look into the financial transactions of CBN will deal with.
“The issue of suspension came in because the CBN Act is somewhat anomalous. We have similar situations where the CBN governor is also the chairman of the board. The CBN governor is the chief executive of CBN and at the same time is chairman of the CBN board; so if there are allegations about the CBN governor, it becomes a problem for you to look into it. And there were issues raised based on the 2012 audit report and for you to look into those issues, for you to be sure of what you are doing, the CBN governor should just step aside.
Immediately the board and the Financial Reporting Council sorts out those grey areas, and if it does not affect him, he would come back to do his work. So, you cannot   say now that you are going to Senate to ask for powers to suspend, then maybe in one week or so, if the board of the Financial Reporting Council… then you go back to the Senate, this man is coming back, no.
“It is when you want to remove the governor completely. Assuming that the board of CBN and Financial Reporting Council look into those grey areas and feel that the infractions are grave enough for Sanusi to leave completely, then I will have to go to Senate no matter the issues they raise. I cannot say that I am firing him, it is the Senate. So, I can place those issues before the Senate and if the Senate agrees with the report, and says yes, then he can leave.
The issue of suspension and removal are quite different.”

On why it took long for the CBN governor to be suspended, he said:
“People raised all kinds of issues that the suspension will affect the economy. When you are dealing with the treasury of the nation, you have to consult widely and take the necessary steps to ensure that it does not affect the economy. One little thing and if issues bordering on the capital market are not taken carefully, it can bring the economy down especially when the Central Bank is involved. When the financial statement was sent to me, I had to send the report to the FRC to seek their opinion. Even if I am the best accountant in the world, I still have to consult widely. It went back and forth. The first report that came to me, issues were raised. Then based on the issues raised, I raised a query to the CBN governor. Of course, the CBN governor now wrote back and I sent it back again to the FRC telling them the response of the CBN governor. It took them time, but what quickly made me to rush to take that decision? By now, the 2013 audit report ought to be published.
One of the things we had to do to stabilise the economy was to send the name of the next CBN governor to the Senate even though the tenure of Sanusi will expire in June in order to tell the international community that we have a succession plan. At any time, if they are through, Sanusi can even come back as CBN governor. So, we want to assure the international community that the succession plan will not affect the economy. It is quite a sensitive thing and you must handle it with care. I really want to use this opportunity to advise people. President Jonathan is a Nigerian, Sanusi is a Nigerian and having been governor of the CBN, he must have stepped on toes.”

Prosecuting Sanusi
People should know how government functions. Government does not prosecute anybody. Any one can be accused of anything. Even in normal civil service operations, even when you are suspected, let us say fraud, they first thing they do is to place you on suspension or interdiction and that matter is investigated. Why they place one on suspension or interdiction until the end of investigation is to ensure that the person dosen’t stay in office to frustrate the process of investigation.
“Government normally places one on interdiction without salary, but if it is a grievious offence, the person is suspended without salary, but not sack, until when they conclude the investigation. The person might go back if he has no case to answer. If he has a case to answer that is when he will be prosecuted.
“The FRC is not a member of CBN, so there might be some issues they pointed out and probably they might need some explanations.
“I’m not saying what they raised there is incriminating on the CBN or Sanusi. It will depend on when the Board of CBN and the FRC look into the grey areas. If he has no case to answer, we won’t prosecute.
“If he has a case to answer, it will depend on the nature of the case. In the public service there are some cases, which are not criminal in nature, such as an act of negligence, or that he skipped a process that he is supposed to follow, this might not lead to prosecution, he might only be sanctioned, indictment or so.
“Prosecution will only come in if a fraud is established. If a fraud is not established, it is just that somebody failed to follow due process or some other issues that are not clearly fraudulent. Nigerians should wait.”
President Jonathan also addressed issues relating to the autonomy of the apex regulatory bank saying that a bid to amend the act was frustrated last year.
He said:
“They are aspects of the CBN operations that most be absolutely y autonomous, not everything about CBN should be autonomous.
“The issues of monetary policies on which CBN is autonomous. For instance, if the CBN wants to devalue the naira, they don’t need to take permission from the President. They just need to look at international actions and take an action. If they want to strengthen the money or withdraw money from circulation, they don’t need to tell the president, nobody interferes. Anything that needs to do with the monetary policies of the CBN, nobody interferes and they don’t need to take permission from anybody, the law gives them absolute autonomy. They should not be subjected to political actions, so that they can manage the country’s finances effectively.
“There are, however, a number of positions that they need the consent of the Presidency, such as when they want to change the colour of the naira, they must seek the President’s consent. The CBN law may be, I’m not saying will be. However, where it may be amended, we might have to consider international best practices.”
Asked why the deputy governors were retained despite the report indicting them, he said:
“The Governor has to step aside, not because anybody has convicted Sanusi, but because he is the Chairman of the Board. Yes, there is somebody among the Deputy Governors, who is now acting, because we cannot remove everybody, unless the office will collapse. In cases like this, the leader steps aside.
“Those are not convictions, but suspected transactions and so on. There may be explanations. The issue of one having to remove all the deputy governors and directors, is not right. While going into the issue, and it is discovered that one of the deputy governors is involved, the person will be asked to step aside, for that area to be properly examined.
“For now, the report is central, so it sort of affects the head.
Kerosene subsidy
“I don’t need to be briefed about the kerosene subsidy issue, because I was involved. I was the Vice

President to the late President Yar’Adua.
About 2008, 2009, international crude oil price dropped significantly, it was $48 or so and we realized that at that time, the pump price of PMS was N70 per litre, while kerosene was N50.
We realized that if we completely deregulate, Nigerians at that time would have gotten PMS at about N60 per litre. We then agreed that we will pull out, completely deregulate the industry, because if we have pulled out then, the pump price would have dropped, and if the pump price dropped, nobody would have protested and that is the best time. So those approvals were given.
Along the line, people, even labour leaders  were among the people that said this might be short-lived, let us wait for another six months, then if it is stable, government can pull out. We were afraid that the price can go up again, and if we pull out now and the international price of crude oil goes up again, citizens will suffer.
“We decided to leave it that way, because the petroleum law did not recognize the president, it is the minister.  So, what happened is that instead of keeping the pump price at N70, the president now got the pump price to N65. This is the first time the pump price of petroleum products were brought down. It always goes up and up. Nigerians would have been buying at N62, but the presidency brought it to N65 and it was announced.
Those are memos authorizing the minister to act, the president has no power based on the law, but of course we know that before the minister will effect it, the president must give clearance.
The law governing changing the price of petroleum products is very clear. To increase  or decrease the price of any petroleum product, the law states that you have to advertise it. You must inform Nigerians in some daily newspapers, you will state the date and the time. If you listen very well, when we want change the price, we might say maybe Sunday 12 midnight, so that by then, every station will change.
Kerosene subsidy still remains, it was not removed and no Nigerian can say that at a particular period it was removed. I was Vice President, and there was no particular period that we announced that we have completely deregulated kerosene.

On Boko Haram
We are worried that people are being killed. There are successes but the negative stories create the impression that the security services are not working. If they are not working, we will not be walking freely in Abuja. We are working with the Cameroonian authorities. The killings are quite worrisome but we will get over it.
On the statement by the Borno governor.
The statement by the governor is unfortunate. I don’t expect that from the Borno governor. If he thinks that the armed forces are not doing well, he should tell me and I will pull them out and see if he will stay in Government House for one month

Sanusi Reacts : Why I exposed missing oil revenue

Sanusi Lamido Sanisi
LAGOS—The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, yesterday, explained that he exposed the opaque management of oil revenue in the country so that it could lead to people being asked to explain what they had done with the money. He also said that he “loves controversy”.
According to the CBN Governor, the controversy surrounding the missing oil revenue was also good for the country.
Sanusi spoke Tuesday night, while addressing the Standard Bank’s West Africa Investors Conference.
His words:  “A lot of the noise that is happening in the country today around me and the oil sector is good for the country because at the end of the day, if it leads to improved governance of oil revenue; if it leads to increased transparency or people having to be called to explain what they have done with the money- that is good for the system.
“People must not see controversy and noise as necessarily bad. I love controversy. If you think there has to be change and if you think a system needs to be improved; and if you get too comfortable in a system, you should ask yourself what has happened to you. You need to step on a few toes, annoy a few people, have your own toes stepped on. You will be annoyed once in a while, of course they will slap you once in a while.”
Sanusi however, assured the gathering of the commitment of the CBN to the stability of the exchange rate, saying the apex bank would continue to defend the Naira as long as there was stable crude oil prices.
“We have tried to build a stable environment and for us at the CBN, we have been very lucky to have had a very good partner in the finance ministry. If you look at government spending in 2013, it really wasn’t much higher in 2012 and fiscal policy is not in itself loose on the basis of government spending.

“The real challenge is that there are things that we can do to block some of the revenue shortfalls that are causing the problem — oil theft and bunkering because we have good oil price; we have got the output and if you fix that, the issue of reserves; currency stability, fiscal deficit would simply disappear. But government spending itself has not been the problem. It is largely because of the fiscal discipline in the last few years that our tight monetary policy has been able to work.
“We have been able to bring down inflation to single digit and it has been below 10 per cent since January 2012. It would remain below 10 per cent throughout 2014. I know there is speculation about how much money will come into the economy during elections, but how much money is there anyway? It’s $2.5 billion in the Excess Crude Account. So even if people want to spend money, the money won’t be available. So the risk from that end is not as high as people might think.
“The greater risk is if we continue to have deterioration in the revenue profile and that can be addressed because it is really a factor within our control. So we have low inflation and the CBN has a stable exchange rate as the cornerstone of its price stability policy and that has been communicated very clearly to the market.
“We have always had our eyes on stability. We are willing to tighten money; we are willing to use reserves within reasonable limits to give you the investors, an anchor for your expectations.
“We don’t want people to come to the market worrying about whether the Naira is going to be on a free fall. Now we do not guarantee that if oil prices fall, there will be no exchange rate movement. But so long as we have stable oil prices, stable output, stable macro conditions, we are committed to exchange rate stability and we will support the currency and that stability is what I think will continue in the future,” he said.

Reactions trail allegation
Meanwhile, reactions have continued to trail the allegation by the CBN governor that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC,  has failed to remit $20 billion into the coffers of the Federal Government, in a public hearing at the Senate, Tuesday.
Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, in his reaction told us that it’s a shame that such a huge amount could not be accounted for. “It simply brings home the position our caucus took at the budget debate, yesterday, (Tuesday). The reason such colossal sums can disappear is because of the non-compliance with Section 21 of the Fiscal Responsibility Act and refusal of the Minister of Finance to submit the detailed estimates of agencies such as NNPC to the National Assembly as prescribed by law. It is a crying shame and an indictment on the NASS that it has taken the Governor of CBN to discover what we should have, had we properly discharged our oversight functions by insisting on compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act,” he said.
In the same vein, Rep Pally Iriase (APC, Edo State), said Nigerians should show concern on the issues of accountability in government agencies.
His words: “Nigerians should be concerned about the lack of accountability by NNPC and even other revenue agencies. The latest revelation vindicates the House of Representatives’ insistence that the current budget must comply fully with the Fiscal Responsibility Act”.
On his part, Rep Abiodun Faleke (PDP, Lagos) said CBN would be invited to give further explanations on the unremitted fund. “It is shocking. We will write him to request for the details for our investigation,” he said.
Chairman, House committee on e-Parliament, Rep Razaq Bello-Osagie said: “This ugly development is unfortunate and a show of shame. Nigeria is now a laughing stock in the comity of nations. This has vindicated our position at the National Assembly for insisting that the 2014 budget estimates forwarded to the National Assembly by the Executive must be accompanied by details of budget estimates of Agencies and corporations under the Federal Government.”
Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Ekiti State, called for vigilance so that the allegation is not swept under the carpet, noting that issues of public finance, transparency and accountability should be taken seriously.
Adetumbi who is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Interior, said: “It is only when all unremitted funds are accounted for that Nigerians will be assured that they have not been short-changed. The time has come for all Nigerians to show more interest and pay serious attention to issues of public finance, transparency and accountability. I have been watching with keen interest the ongoing investigations on the alleged unremitted $49.9bn funds, now reviewed downwards to $20bn by the CBN Governor from oil exports into the Federation Account.
Also reacting in a telephone interview with us, former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, said: “No matter the figure Sanusi mentioned, it is obvious that money is missing. Whether it is $10 billion, $12 billion or $20 billion, it is obvious that money is missing and it should be investigated.”
Senator Emma Anosike from Anambra State, however, flayed the CBN governor, accusing him of playing to the gallery. “I feel so disappointed in the sense that the Central Bank Governor should stop playing to the gallery. The last time he spoke to this country, he came out, first of all made an allegation and the second time, he came and apologized that he had reconciled with them. This time around, he has said that $20 billion is missing. Who do we believe? How do we have confidence in this kind of person?”
Sanusi, however, found strong support from the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP saying the body entirely agreed with Sanusi. Mr. Okechukwu told us that, “one entirely agrees with the Governor of the CBN that money is missing from revenue accruing to Nigeria between January 2012 to July 2013; the only missing link is the exact amount, but the truth remains that some money was stolen.

SSS Cautions Asari Dokubo, Tells Him To Go Home

The State Security Service on Thursday evening released ex-Niger Delta militant leader Dokubo-Asari, after some hours of interrogation. Asari, who arrived at the headquarters of the SSS in Abuja at 9.45am was said to have been quizzed for about six hours over his threat to Nigerians.

The ex-militant was invited by SSS, following his inflammatory statements in connection to the 2015 election, in which he said there will be bloodshed, even if President Goodluck Jonathan is defeated in a free election.

The self acclaimed warlord was cautioned and allowed to go home around 4pm.

PDP Chairman's Peace Talks With Obasanjo Failed

Strong indications have emerged that efforts by the troubled Peoples Democratic Party to make ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo to have a rethink on his decision to stay away from the party’s activities have failed.

“Baba (Obasanjo) is still insisting on issues he raised in his two letters, particularly the restructuring of the party. He had said that he would withdraw from the party’s activities, until grievances he mentioned in the letter to the PDP and the President are addressed.

“On Jonathan’s purported second (or third) term ambition, Obasanjo stated that nothing had changed from what he wrote in the letter to the President because it is a matter of honour.”
Investigations by Punch on Thursday showed that Obasanjo insisted when the new PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu visited him on January 26, 2015, that Jonathan must honour his alleged promise in 2011 not to contest the 2015 presidential election.

A very reliable PDP national officer confided in Punch that Obasanjo also gave other conditions that the new leadership of the party must meet before he would have a change of mind.

They include the restructuring of the party as well as the correction of the anomalies relating to the removal of Olagunsoye Oyinlola as the national secretary of the PDP and Bode Mustapha as national auditor in 2013.

Mu’azu was reported to have, during the closed-door meeting in Abeokuta, pleaded with Obasanjo to back the President’s alleged 2015 interest and other activities of the ruling party.

Our source said that Obasanjo told Mu’azu bluntly to address the core issues in PDP if things must change.

Obasnjo had in the letter to the President said, “Only a fool would believe that statement you made to me judging by what is going on. I must say that is not ingenious. You may wish to pursue a more credible and more honourable path.”

The ex-President added that in 2011, Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswan, informed him that Jonathan had accepted a one-term Presidency and it was on that basis he supported Jonathan.

President Jonathan Set To Meet With Amaechi Secretly

President Goodluck Jonathan is set to meet with the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi as it becomes clear that Amaechi and all the sitting Local Government Chairman in the state have all it takes to make sure Jonathan loses majority votes to APC in 2015.

A top insider at a meeting Jonathan had with PDP governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday night, disclosed that the President was pressed to removed Mbu as a way of begging Amaechi indirectly.
"The President, at the meeting, was made to know that there is crisis in the party and that we need to work harder if we are dreaming of winning the 2015 elections.

"It was difficult for us to convince the President about the need to transfer Mbu. He felt it was not right doing so, saying it could also confirm some people’s belief that he does not stand by those who work for him [against his political opponents]."
Going by the tune of the meeting, the source told Punch that Jonathan might initiate a meeting with Amaechi.

The source, who is close to the President, disclosed that Jonathan was asked to make peace with anyone who is capable of helping him to win the 2015 presidential election, otherwise he may lose to APC.

On the removal of the controversial Rivers State Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu, the source said they told President Jonathan that it would be wrong for him (Jonathan) to give the country the impression that just one commissioner of police is capable of working for him among the entire police force in the country.

On why Mbu was not posted to another state, the source said none of the governors agreed to accept him.

The Basis for Iyanya Brake Up With Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson VS Iyanya
The exact reason why Yvonne Nelson and Iyanya broke up came to our blogging ears, whether it’s true or not, we still don’t know as Yvonne Nelson has always been a subject of ridicule by the media.

More revelations are beginning to emerge as to why Nigerian‘Kurukere’ singer, Iyanya Mbuk, parted ways with Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, the recent being that Yvonne actually pestered Iyanya with marriage and at one point, asked him to marry her, according to Entertainement Todays Nigeria.
This much was revealed to us by an insider who is very close to the duo. The source who does not want his name in print, divulged to us that Yvonne was so much in love with the ‘Your Waist’ rocker and wanted the relationship to get to another level but that when Iyanya was foot dragging, she took the bull by the horn and told him she would love to spend the rest of her life with him.

“Yvonne wanted to take her relationship with Iyanya to the next level but they weren’t on the same page. Yvonne wanted to have him as a hubby but he wasn’t keen on the idea because he felt it was too early to talk about those things. She told him she loved him and would love him forever,” the source stated.

But, according to the source, she was very hurt when Iyanya told her he was not ready to settle down since he has a long way to go.

“When a lady tells you she loves you, and wants to be serious with you, start a real life with you, and maybe, have you as husband and you turn her down, that’s all bad. It is like game over,” the source concluded.

Bigamist : Woman finds her husband marries another Lady on Facebook

Bigamist
A bigamist was caught by his wife after she saw a photograph of him grinning with his new Gambian teenage bride on social network, Facebook.

Nicolette Smith(pictured below) was further devastated when she noticed Stephen Smith, 52, had married Awa Jobarteh, 19, at the same African register office they tied the knot 7 years earlier.

Ms Smith then called the police, but incredibly her cheating former partner has avoided jail and claimed he was the victim.

The factory worker had been abandoned by his new young bride two days after arriving back in the UK, and she has never been traced.

Nicolette, met her husband in 2001, after his first divorce, but has been left in financial ruin after their marriage breakdown.

She was declared bankrupt when Smith failed to pay the mortgage and is still waiting for her husband to sign divorce papers, Teesside Crown Court was told.

The 52-year-old was prosecuted for bigamy after he admitted 'hastily' rushing down the aisle with his third wife because he was in love.

The court heard that the day before the wedding Smith signed a petition for divorce from his second wife, which carried a signature purporting to be by Nicolette - but it was faked.

Nicolette admitted she was disappointed that he was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years with 150 hours' unpaid work.

'I feel as though he's got away with this and has been portrayed as some kind of victim himself after all that he's put me through. He knew if he responded to my divorce petition, he'd give away where he'd been hiding,' she said.

Discussing the way he was dumped by his new bride she told The Sun: 'She looked so young in the pictures and he looked a little pathetic. I don't know what else he could have expected'.

Smith claimed he was a wronged victim, duped and abandoned by his latest spouse after he met her in Gambia, married her on November 7, 2012 and brought her to the UK.

Smith married his second wife in December 2005. The marriage broke down two years later.
He went missing and her solicitors received no reply in efforts to start divorce proceedings. She then reported him to the police when she found out that he'd remarried.

Smith admitted a charge of bigamy, his first crime but said he had thought he was divorced and that his divorce was 'automatic'.

Olu and Joke Jacobs ‘We get mad at each other 10 times a day’

Olu and Joke
Inside their home, it is not all the time a bed of roses, this was the testimony shared by Mr. Olu Jacobs and his wife, Joke, who are top artistes.   They share their happy and challenging times in this piece.
Olu-J Appreciating marriage
Marriage has been good, it has been wonderful.

How I met my husband
I met him at the National Theatre while we were rehearsing for Jero’s Metamorphosis by Professor Wole Soyinka in 1981. I was to play Sister Rubeka  and he was playing the role of Prophet Jero and, at the same time co-directing the play. That was where we met.

What happened when I met him
People  had been talking about him before I arrived the country because he was based in the UK at that time.  Everybody was talking about him, especially Miss Ene, the then Artistic Director of the National Theatre and Dr. Ashiwaju. They had met in England and I guess he would have been the Chiwetel Ejiofor of that time. Just as what Chiwetel is to this present generation, so he was then.

He was one of the top African actors in England at that time, whether on stage or on screen. He was the talk of the town. So, I was looking forward to meeting him; when I finally saw him, he was quite a handsome man. Our first meeting, if I could remember vividly, I went to call Miss Ene to come and watch our rehearsal. They were in a production meeting, and, when I entered the office, the first thing he uttered was, “This is the woman I am going to marry.”
When I left the office, I said to myself, `How can anybody say it just like that?’ He  always insisted that I eyed him every now and then. We started out as very good friends. Four years later  we got married. We met in 1981 and married in 1985.

Courtship before marriage
We started courting before he proposed to me. But the proposal came after four years of our courtship. He proposed to me in Tunisia while he was on a movie set called, ‘The Pirate’, directed by Roman Polansky. I was in a drama school in London. So, I visited him briefly in Tunisia to spend some time with him, and later flew back to England. We have been married for 28 years now.
Attraction
He had a lovely sense of humour. He was also very passionate about his work. Additionally, he had a very broad shoulder and a very lean body like that of our last child. Basically, the attraction was his sense of fun and style. He really had, and still has a sense of style. You can never find Olu dressed shabbily, it’s not him. I remember the early years of our marriage, after 1993, things got rough with us, after pumping all our money into an investment.
We used to work ourselves to the bone. And it used to upset us that we couldn’t dress the way we liked to. But there were responsibilities to take care of. That was an attraction as well; his sense of style, honesty and high integrity.

What  kept marriage going
Friendship. We are each other’s very close friend. It’s not as if we don’t have close friends outside our marriage, but I think we are both each other’s number one close friend. The other thing is mutual respect, the fact that we both share the same passion about the area of entertainment that we are in. Of course, the various challenges that we’ve faced over the years , we’ve learnt how to surmount them together. At different times when it is necessary, we have both learnt to forgive each other. I guess the sum total of what I’m saying is that God’s grace has been present in our marriage.
People always refer to your marriage as a successful celebrity marriage. What is the secret of  being able to hold on to your marriage  for 28 years and you remain inseparable?
God’s grace has kept us in the sense that even when the challenges come, we’ve been very lucky with the kind of friends that we have had who have been very supportive. They too have their share in making sure that this marriage succeeds.  I have some very good friends and family, definitely good family on both sides.

Key factor for successful marriage
There has been the contribution of family and friends. We don’t have that many friends really, but the ones we have  are like family, they are very close to us. They’ve been with us from day one.  Our families too have been very supportive, especially, when the children were younger and we had to work. It was easy to take the children to family members while we went about what it was necessary for us to do , knowing fully well that the children were in good hands.
Also we had very challenging times,; I’ll never forget a time, I don’t even know what it was that caused the quarrel, it was a long time ago, and I got so upset. I just packed all my things, took the children with me in the car and drove off and went to my mum. That same day, I came back, my mother drove me back. (laughs). They are both so close, my husband and my mum.
A lot of times when people see the  two of them together, they think she is his mother. Unfortunately, by the time we got married, his mum had passed away, so his late sister was like my mother-in-law. And she was just an absolute gem, she used to call me ‘Olori’ which means ‘Queen’. She had this wonderful way of making me feel extra-special. My sister-in-law never allowed anyone to oppress me. Our families are always so positive, so encouraging….. One good thing about both families is that whenever there is  a need, everybody rises. That’s how we are.

Causes of break-up of marriages
I wouldn’t dare say that I can talk about that, I can’t; because I know that what I have is God’s grace. It would be arrogant to say this is what caused the break up of this person’s marriage. I’m not walking in their shoes. All I can say is that there are things that happen that can break up marriages, but if you can pray for strength to weather those storms and usually when these storms are happening, it’s because there is something good, there is a contention. Marriage is an institution created by God .
As a Christian, I look at it from the Christian perspective. It is a symbol of God’s union with his Church. Marriage is always on the attack; if you remember, even in the Garden of Eden when Eve was found on her own, she was attacked and, when she succumbed, it was easy for Adam to fall. If you can ask for the grace to weather the storm, there’s always something beautiful at the end.
If you’re being physically or mentally abused in a marriage, to be honest, for me, I’d go for separation. Then, we go for counselling and see if the union can continue. With a lot of prayers, it usually does come together. But for me to say this is why marriages break up, I can’t.
Intimacy in marriage
I don’t think it’s possible for you to have marriage without intimacy, because if there’s no intimacy, why bother with marriage? Most people think intimacy means just sex, there’s more to it than that. There’s a meeting of minds, there’s that bonding. Sometime ago, I used to tell him (my husband)  that ‘one of the reasons why I find that I can’t leave you is that the next morning, I’m likely to call to find out how you are’.
There is just this closeness. I really don’t think marriage is possible without intimacy. I think it is very important that there is trust in marriage. Trust can be broken, but it can be healed.  Some people believe in polygamy, I don’t. I don’t believe in sharing. It has to do with what works for you as a couple.

Display of public affection
I don’t think I’d do what I see happens in the West where you see people kissing on the streets. But, yes I can hold my husband, hug him if the situation calls for it.
Combining my duty as a mother, wife and an actress
One, I have had very good role models. I think that’s a key and my first role model was my mum. She was married to the same person all her life, until my father died. That’s over 40 something years of marriage they had. The people who were also my care givers because my mum travelled a lot, like Chief Mrs Olaoye, Mrs Oyin Oladapo, Mrs Laoye and my mother’s sister, Mrs Busola Olumide – all these people juggled being wives, being mothers, being professionals.
One of the things I learnt is to make time for the family, you career cannot supersede the family. The family always comes  first in everything I’m doing. There is what is called prioritising, what needs attention at a particular point. Is it work, family or your husband. They rarely do need attention at the same time, thank God, so you give attention to whatever needs attention at whatever point in time.
Olu-J-111There’s one thing I learnt from my mum which is to always have very good back up; your house helps and family members, especially when the children are very young and you are a working class lady. I also learnt that changing house helps is not the best thing to do. When someone becomes your house help, she automatically becomes part of your family. Their problems become yours as well.
You operate as one family, that’s the way I’ve been brought up. And because of that, you are able to function well as a family. My house help has been with us for over 14 years now. I used to have challenges with my drivers, I kept changing them. I had to go to God in prayer asking for a a good driver and the present one has been with us for over five years.

What is it you don’t like about your husband
Of course, we get mad at each other ten times a day.( Laughs). Earlier in our marriage, when we used to snap at each other, it led to sulking on both sides for hours. But now, there is nothing like that any more. We can get mad at each other and the next two minutes we are laughing and talking to each other. If we quarrel and it lasts for a couple of hours, it’s because we want to drive a point home.
There is a beautiful way an actress put it. She said, and I quote, “Within the marriage, there are lots of weddings and divorces,  but what is important is that the weddings should be more than the divorces and then you have a successful marriage.”

I saw someone who stunned me – Olu Jacobs
Before I met my wife
I was a bachelor. I was living on my own for so many years. I went to England as a bachelor and when I met my wife  I was still a bachelor. Yes, I had some girl friends but not more than one at a time before I met my wife. Unfortunately, they lacked the qualities I wanted in a woman at that time. It was quite easy for me when I met my wife to do away with any other casual friend that I had then.
I closed all chapters with them just to make sure that there was no misunderstanding between my wife and myself. I wanted  to give the relationship I had with her a chance to grow so that interferences would be eliminated.

Love at first sight
Yes, it was the case of love at first sight. Our story runs like a novel. We were doing a production meeting for Jero’s Metamorphosis at National Theatre, Iganmu. I was playing Brother Jero and, at the same time, co-directing the play. Suddenly, the door opened and the lady came in, I looked at her and said, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the woman I am going to marry’.  She just looked at me up and down and left.
Four years later, we got married. That was how sure I was when I saw her and I have never been that kind of sure in my life. I’m not an extrovert when it comes to that. I keep my relationship quiet. But that was how I saw it at the moment when I saw her.
Attraction
I saw a woman, somebody who stunned me. There was  no explanation, I looked at her and she was just the kind of woman I wanted. I saw her and she was just it and I said, ‘This is the lady I ‘m going to marry.’ After that time, I didn’t see any other girl friend apart from her. And since we got married, it has been same.

The journey 28 years after
We thank God for everything. Like any other journey in life, whether by road, sea or air, you must go through turbulent times as well as smooth times. That is part of life, and that is why it is important that when you decide to marry, you must begin  to think of how you are going to take care of that person. How is that person going to care of you? What kind of person do you want? All these questions you must sincerely and honestly ask yourself.
When you begin to think for two, when you are working you are working, for two in your mind. Whatever you are doing from then on, you are doing it for two. That’s what God wants. He wants unity, He wants the husband and wife to be united. When you are thinking, you are only thinking of your partner who happens to be your best friend. Both of you have to share your plans.
If you are doing something and your wife doesn’t know and if your wife is doing something and you don’t know, it means the relationship hasn’t started yet. If you are keeping money away to spend on other babes, God doesn’t support that, it is the devil that is diving in to divide the relationship and that’s what we must always avoid.

Is there anything you don’t like about your wife?
She used to keep things in mind, I never realised this on time. When you think everything has been forgotten, all of a sudden she reminds you of it. At first, I used to be very upset, and then I realised that I used to be like that. Memory is good, but at the same time, we must make sure that we use it for good. Instead of looking for something bad that she has done, use that same time to look for something good that she has done, then you’ll find that she has not done anything bad, when you compare both. But we exaggerate what we consider bad.
The challenges are challenges and they must come in life. It is very easy to talk about the bad things but the good things are the ones that inspire. The bad things should be remembered in order to warn you to change for the better. Use them for change. My wife is very generous, very kind and caring. If you’re having a problem, she’ll listen and take it up as her own. If you need something and she has it, she’ll give it to you.
I’m very happy with her and she’s my best friend. When you have a friend at home, you want to go home. Wherever you are, you want to finish whatever you are doing and go home. The home is attractive to you and that’s the kind of person she is. Sometimes, when we are working separately, we try to always be on phone with each other two to three times a day. If it is possible on our way to branch and say ‘hi’, have a cup of tea together which we do sometimes and spend the night. Then the next day, she’s off to her station and I’m off to mine. We keep in touch.

Have you starred in the same movie with your wife?  What was the experience like?
Yes, we work very well together. We don’t have problems at all. When we met, we were working together. There were no unnecessary complications. Work is work and play is play. We left our homes so that we can work.
If you are to advise young couples, what would you tell them?
First of all, young people must try as much as possible to avoid too many so-called good friends who always have advice for you. Try and be careful with them. You may listen to them, but weigh whatever they give you. Not all your so-called good friends wish you well. Quite a lot of them want to take over your position.

Pray for contentment.
Pray to meet, have and keep your friend. You need the wisdom to see and recognise a friend. Always think for two ( you and your wife). You and your wife first, others can come in later. Even your parents will tell you, “This is your wife, take care of her”.
